Nigel has over 25 years’ experience in the property development and construction industry across a variety of sectors and business environments.
With a professional background in engineering, he commenced his employment with Manukau City Council in the early 1980s before gaining further property development, investment and managerial skills in both the UK and New Zealand.
Before joining McConnell Property Limited in 2003, Nigel was Regional General Manager for Bovis Lend Lease.
Nigel’s managerial responsibilities have included representations in several design/build joint venture consortiums, responsible for delivering some of New Zealand’s most significant capital works projects including the $450m augmentation project associated with Auckland’s Mangere wastewater treatment plant. He retains directorships in both the private and public domain.
Nigel has completed or led a number of corporate advisory assignments over the years for clients such as General Electric, Carter Holt Harvey, AMP, Housing New Zealand, Solid Energy, Manukau City Council and Goldman Sachs JBWere. These roles included responsibility for fostering and growing new business relationships by providing sound business case support to a range of property or project challenges. This included strategic planning and risk mitigation studies, development and facilities management reviews and overseeing the implementation phases.
Nigel has built an extensive knowledge in commercial building, infrastructural and land development projects with direct project participation in the planning and consenting of the 192 ha Highbrook (Auckland) and 70ha Titanium (Hamilton) business parks, delivery of the 18,000m2 Telstra Centre, major refurbishment of the 20,000m2 AXA Centre and more recently the PricewaterhouseCoopers tower and Ascot Central office developments.
